Port Phillip Bay Beach Renourishment

Oldfield Consulting has been engaged by the Victorian Department of Environment and Primary Industries to prepare detailed design for the renourishment of three beaches around Port Phillip Bay. Blairgowrie West beach, Sorrento beach and Fishermans Beach in Mornington will be widened by placing imported sand onto each beach. Where necessary, anchoring structures such as timber or rock groynes might be used to extend the design life of each renourished beach. The primary objectives of the DEPI beach renourishment program are to improve the amenity for beachgoers, and to provide protection against erosion of foreshore areas which are particularly prone to erosion from wave and wind action. The project commenced in mid-2012 and will be completed in 2014. To date, the Blairgowrie beach works have been successfully completed.
