Northern Victorian Waterways – Boat Ramps

Project Title: Northern Victorian Waterways – Boat Ramps

Client: Department of Environment and Primary Industries

Project Description: Oldfield Consulting was engaged by the Department of Environment and Primary Industries (DEPI) in 2012 to design boat ramps for ten sites along the Loddon and Campaspe Rivers and Gunbower Creek in northern Victoria for the Building Northern Native Fisheries – Improving Boating Access Plan. The boat ramps were intended to improve accessibility for recreational fishermen along these popular fishing waterway destinations.

Water Technology were engaged for river hydraulics analysis and Adrian Cummins & Associates undertook all site surveys. Site visits engaged a wide range of local stakeholders to ensure that local needs were properly addressed. Each site was surveyed to ascertain the specific site characteristics, and a standard boat ramp design was developed to fit into these sites.

In 2013, DEPI worked closely with the North Central Catchment Management Authority to construct the first three boat ramps, which were successfully completed in time for the summer fishing season of 2013/14. Further ramps are expected to be constructed at the remaining sites in the near future.
